In today’s digital, fast-paced world, you might feel overwhelmed by stress and poorer health from inactivity. An expanding body of evidence indicates that greenspace exposure produces numerous improved health outcomes, including lower incidence of stroke, hypertension, dyslipidemia, asthma, and coronary heart disease. People who spend more time in nature tend to be happier and healthier for the following reasons:
- Mental Health – stress hormone levels drop significantly after just 15 minutes of sitting in a forest
- Cardiovascular Health – reduce risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes
- Work Performance – boost memory, creativity, and work satisfaction
- Respiratory Health & Immunity – reduce inflammation and risk of lung infections

Parks Prescriptions (PaRx) is an initiative by the BC Parks Foundation that aims to improve patients’ health by connecting them to nature. A health care provider registered with the program can prescribe patients a Parks Canada Discovery Pass, which grants free entry to over 80 Parks Canada sites across the country for one year.
